How rack setup works

Each new controller found on the rack port is set up in eight steps, one at a time. Janus reads the rack port’s checks from the host; it never changes this computer’s network.

  1. IdentifyTiers light in turn, then the rack flashes twice.
  2. NameRack ID and name. Its rack label follows the ID.
  3. Where it isScan the floor label.
  4. AddressOff the factory default.
  5. ShapeSides, tiers, bays. Towers are read from the rack.
  6. BaselineEvery board replies; every bay is read. Full racks too.
  7. Follow the lightSomeone at the rack puts a reel where each sampled bay lights.
  8. Put in serviceOnly when the rack qualifies as a whole. Rack labels print.

  6. Someone at the rackAt the rackFollow the light needs a named person there: they put a reel where each bay lights and look at the tower.
  7. Floor labelAt the rackThe position has a floor label, e.g. POS-L2-03. Where it is is set by scanning it. Missing labels print from Label printer SMT-2.
  8. Which way roundAt the rackT4T3T2T1T4T3T2T1Side A faces the aisle. Tier 1 is at the bottom. Bay 1 is at the left as you face each side.

This reply can’t be set up

What it usually is

  • A replacement box with CTRL-B01’s settings copied onto it. The real CTRL-B01 still answers at 192.168.0.22.
  • A spare taken from SR-02 and put back on the bench.

Identify this reply. If the rack in front of you lights and SR-02 does not, the reply is a copy.

Replacing SR-02’s controller? The new box takes over from SR-02’s page, with its own serial. A copied serial can’t take over.
